Abcellute was founded in September 2001 as a spinout from the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University. Abcellute’s core technology is a proprietary media - SureTran™ - that enables the extended use of fresh cells without the need for cryopreservation.

The company’s vision is to achieve global adoption of its SureTran™ cell transport technology by providing the research community with enhanced, fresh-cell systems. These will maximise the utilisation of this often scarce resource and provide products that are much more convenient to use than current fresh-cell systems. This will deliver benefits to biomedical researchers in key areas such as pre-clinical drug evaluation and regenerative medicine. Its current strategy is to:

• provide cells and tissues in SureTran™ to researchers worldwide; and
• collaborate with technology companies seeking a value-adding transport media to enhance the commercial potential of new cell-based products.
